Gordon rising through the ranks
Shaheem Gordon is slowly but surely making his presence felt as an apprentice rider among the top jockeys. With eight wins already this season, he’s proving to be a rider of note.
His most recent victory came aboard Himaya on the 10-race programme at Caymanas Park on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
Gordon’s improved riding style has been noticeable, with many observers praising his patience, determination, and confidence in the saddle. These qualities seem to be paying off, as he continues to deliver impressive performances and secure wins for his clients.
His win aboard Himaya came in the day’s finale, a Restricted Allowance V contest for native-bred four-year-olds and upward (non-winners of two) and imported four-year-olds and upward (maidens) over 7 furlongs (1,400m).
Gordon held Himaya off the pace and only asked the four-year-old roan filly to run navigating the half-mile turn. As the field turned for home, Gordon urged Himaya to accelerate, and the Jason DaCosta trainee responded with a quick change of gear.
With impressive power and speed, Himaya surged past her rivals to claim victory. The winning margin was a length and three-quarters, with Noble Sovereign (ridden by Rayon Blake) and Bomb Night (ridden by Aaron Chatrie) finishing second and third, respectively. The win was achieved in an impressive time of 1:32.1.
