Butler Team triumphs in thrilling quiz finals at Sandals Ochi

IT was a day full of mental agility, friendly rivalry and proud celebration as Sandals Ochi Beach Resort hosted the finals of its Intern-Departmental Quiz Competition, drawing a full house of team members, guests and supporters.

The energy was electric as the Butler Team faced off against a confident and determined Engineering Team in a contest that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

Departments arrived prepared, energised and dressed in team colours. From the first round, the competition proved to be intense with questions covering a wide range of topics — from mathematics, English, and science to general knowledge and local trivia — keeping both teams and the audience mentally engaged.

Carol Bourke, resort general manager, commended everyone’s effort and preparation.

“The teams put in a lot of work and they shone today. We have all winners here — they proved their mettle. Events like this reflect our culture of unity, learning and friendly competition. It is what makes Sandals Ochi a truly dynamic place to work” Bourke said.

Quiz Master Carnel Smith commended the competitor’ quick pace and sharp reflexes, remarking on how fast teams hit the buzzers and responded with confidence and style. “It was fast, it was competitive and above all — it was fun,” added Smith.

One of the highlights of the day was the recognition of outstanding individual participants.

Davia Davis, the only female finalist from the resort’s Engineering Department, received the Top Female Performer Award.

“I gave it everything I had and I am proud to have represented the engineering team. The support from my colleagues meant everything today,” she said.

Dalmar Bentley, from the Butler Team, was named Top Male Performer for his exceptional contributions throughout the quiz.

“This win feels amazing. But, what made it special was the team spirit. We backed each other up the whole way and had a great time doing it. It wasn’t just about winning — it was about learning and lifting each other,” said Bentley.

The announcement of the butlers as the overall winning team sparked a wave of jubilant emotion. Teammates hugged each other in celebration before being joined by co-workers and supporters from across departments.

Cheers, high-fives, support signs and even a few tears of joy marked the moment.

Prizes included dinner passes at Sandals Dunn’s River, catamaran cruises, medals, trophies, supermarket vouchers, and curated gift baskets.

“Power is knowledge,” said Gary Holgate, hotel manager. “And today, our team shone brighter than ever.”
