NABD-NCSC Senior Domino Tournament hailed a success
Tournament co-ordinator Patsy Smalling says the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB)/National Council for Senior Citizen (NCSC) Domino Tournament, held in Manchester on Tuesday, was a success.
Smalling says the event brought together seniors for what she describes as a fun-filled day of competition and socialisation.
“The tournament was great,” she says. “It gives the seniors an opportunity to socialise with each other and to learn how to be disciplined while they are competing. The tournament also provided a mental challenge, allowing participants to use their brain to compete with each other.”
She says the tournament is particularly important for encouraging male participation.
“It is a difficult task to get men out, and they are out today because of domino,” she says. “This is a wonderful event, and it should continue among the seniors because we want the men to be a part of the activities we do.”
The tournament winners, Richard Rowe and Trevor Powell, are thrilled with their victory.
Powell, a seasoned domino player, praised the event.
“I have been playing domino for a very long time,” the 72-year-old says. “This is a very good thing, I mean it brings out the citizens to enjoy themselves. The young people are always having fun and so it’s time that the senior get to enjoy themselves as well.”
NABD President Humbert Davis says domino is significant in the lives of seniors.
“Domino is more than just a game, it’s a way of life,” he says. “This tournament is a testament to the power of domino to bring people together and create a sense of community. We’re proud to support our seniors and provide them with opportunities to engage in meaningful activities.”
