The annual Jamaica Independence Gala is more than an event; it is a powerful convergence of celebration and philanthropy. Hosted by Jamaica’s Consul General to New York Alsion Wilson, in partnership with voluntary non-profit organisation Jamaica’s Promise, the 2025 gala, held under the theme “Party with a Purpose”, saw 700-plus patrons pouring into the New York Marriott Marquis on Saturday, August 23, for a black-tie affair celebrating honorees — Jamaican-American entrepreneur James Alston; legendary figure in reggae music Patricia “Miss Pat” Chin; pioneering Jamaican-American entrepreneur Henry “Larry” Duffus; finance expert and philanthropist Gregory Fisher; reggae music icon and cultural ambassador Rita Marley; nationally recognised higher education leader Dr Anthony Munroe; Sandals Resorts International, ATL Group, and Jamaica Observer Media Group Executive Chairman Adam Stewart; and president and CEO of Scotia Group Jamaica Limited Audrey Tugwell Henry — while raising funds for causes that change lives.

The evening’s formalities were guided by media personality Debbie Bissoon and actress Khadeen Ellis.
