Gore pleased with podium finish in Germany
Jamaican race car driver Tommi Gore is upbeat after his performance in Round 4 of the ADAC GT4 Germany season at the Sachsenring Circuit in Saxony, Germany, at the weekend.
Gore and his Israeli teammate, Alon Gabbay, drove their Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport car to their first podium of the season, finishing third in the first race and then 10th in the second.
Gore described the podium finish as “one for the storybooks”, and says it was a strong weekend and what he considers a big step in the right direction.
“After qualifying P13, we went into the race with mixed expectations, aiming for a top-10 finish,” he says. “There was a shower of rain just before the start, and this I knew would bring opportunities.
“Following a chaotic first stint, I handed the car to Alon in P (position) 6, already a huge achievement. He then brought us home in P3, securing our first podium of the season by staying smart and out of trouble. From P13 to a podium, what a charge forward!”
However, Gore says the second race was more challenging.
“Starting P8, we had hopes of pushing into the top 5,” he says. “However, an overnight Balance of Performance adjustment and a major change in track and ambient temperature made the BMWs very strong. Alon handed the car to me in P10, but after a pit stop penalty dropped us back to P14, I fought hard to climb back into the top 10 with a P10 finish.”
Gore had no trouble adjusting to the environment, saying the Jamaican culture was on display at the track.
“With tens of thousands of fans in attendance and international coverage across major outlets, the atmosphere was unique with fans loving the Jamaican vibes,” he says. “I actually heard Beenie Man playing on the grid at one point! It was the perfect place to showcase our team and partners on the global stage in an exceptionally competitive field of 22 cars.”
Gore will compete in the penultimate round of the season at Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, over the weekend of September 12 to 14.
“With consistent steps forward over the past two rounds, our momentum is growing, and we intend to keep pushing,” he says.
