Operations at several gov’t agencies disrupted by bomb threats
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Operations at several government agencies and departments were disrupted by a slew of bomb threats on Friday.
Among those impacted in the Corporate Area are the Island Traffic Authority (ITA), the National Housing Trust (NHT), and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
Several offices in Manchester were also shuttered Friday morning due to a reported bomb threat at the James Warehouse Plaza.
The threat was reportedly made to the Mandeville office of the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA). Police personnel, firefighters and soldiers are presently at the plaza and have cordoned off a section of it.
The plaza also houses the office Member of Parliament for Manchester Central Rhoda Crawford.
In Port Antonio, the PICA office has been cordoned off and traffic has been diverted due to a bomb threat there as well. This was confirmed by the Deputy Superintendent for the Portland Police Division, Ainsley McCarthy, who said all necessary precautions have been taken.
The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) office located close by is also closed.
