D&G Foundation/CAC 2000 donate AC units to Seaview Gardens Literacy Unit
Desnoes & Geddes (D&G) Foundation has deepened its investment in the Seaview Gardens Literacy Unit through a partnership with CAC 2000 Ltd, one of Jamaica’s leading air-conditioning and energy solutions companies.
The entities recently installed two new air-conditioning (AC) units, a simple but powerful upgrade that builds on the foundation’s $8 million literacy programme, which has already delivered measurable improvements in reading levels since its launch three years ago.
Principal Keisha Pessoa explained the significance of the enhancement:
“Our students have always embraced the Literacy Room as their special place, even when conditions were far from ideal. But we also knew that comfort matters. These new AC units will allow our students to focus better, gain confidence, and deepen their love for reading,” a news release from D&G Foundation quoted her.
Her reflection points to a larger truth that meaningful change often happens when organisations come together to meet real community needs, the release said.
The partnership between D&G Foundation and CAC 2000 is a clear example, demonstrating how collaboration can deliver tangible benefits that directly affect children’s daily lives, a news release stated.
For CAC 2000, the project reflects the mission of the CAC 2000 Foundation, which has long supported youth development and community uplift.
“Education is one of the greatest investments we can make in Jamaica’s future,” said Gia Abraham, head of CAC 2000 Foundation.
“When the D&G Foundation approached us, it was an easy decision. Something as simple as air-conditioning can make a big difference in how children learn, and we’re proud to play our part in giving them the comfort and support they deserve,” the release quoted Abraham.
Dennis Beckford, accountant at D&G Foundation, added, “Our work in Seaview Gardens has shown us that lasting progress is measured not just in facilities, but in the opportunities we unlock for children to dream bigger and achieve more. Partnering with CAC 2000 allows us to multiply that impact and build communities where every child can thrive.”
The Literacy Unit has already become a beacon in Seaview Gardens, serving students who need extra academic support and providing them with the tools to thrive.
With this latest enhancement, D&G Foundation and CAC 2000 are demonstrating how strategic partnerships can remove barriers to learning and create lasting change. By investing in literacy and the conditions that support it, both organisations are not only uplifting children in Seaview Gardens today but also strengthening the foundation for Jamaica’s future workforce and community leaders, the release said.
