Full field expected for CUMI fund-raising golf event
A maximum field of 80 players are expected to show for the annual Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill (CUMI) foundation charity golf tournament set for Tryall Course in Sandy Bay, Hanover, on September 6.
The announcement came at Tuesday’s media launch at S Hotel on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard.
Jamaica Money Market Brokers (JMMB) has increased their sponsorship to $2 million for the fifth staging of the event that is the major fund-raiser for the CUMI Shelter which is based in Montego Bay. The shelter provides support for people in the city living with mental challenges.
The organisers have been allowed to exceed the limit of 74 golfers on the course, Catherine Delisser, board chairperson, said on Tuesday. She noted at the time that 78 of the 80 places allowed had been taken for the fifth staging of the event.
Defending champions Carlyle Hudson and Peter Chin are confirmed for the event that will be played as a two-person scramble. The prizes up for grabs include an EQE-350-plus Mercedes Benz SUV worth over $20 million, courtesy of Stewart’s Automotive Group, for a hole in one on the 10th hole.
Alex Campbell, sales consultant at Stewart’s, described the automobile as “as sleek and sexy” and said it comes with all the bells and whistles of a modern model luxury vehicle.
Another luxury vehicle was also offered last year for the same prize but was not claimed.
There will also be a prize of $50,000 for nearest to the hole on the fourth hole, two-night stays at S Hotel and Sandals Resorts, as well as one night’s stay at AC Hotel Kingston, among others.
