WATCH: PNP’s Scott promises healthcare, infrastructure improvements in St Elizabeth South East
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – People’s National Party (PNP) candidate for St Elizabeth South East, Norman Scott, has pledged to prioritise healthcare and infrastructure if elected in the September 3 general election.
He has pointed to long-overdue developments in Junction and surrounding communities.
Speaking at a political rally in Red Bank on Friday, Scott said he has already engaged with the PNP’s spokesperson on health, Dr Alfred Dawes, about creating a hospital in Junction.
“I was so shocked out of my wits because the place is there already. The infrastructure is there already. All that needs to be done is to put it into operation,” Scott said. “When I come to Parliament, I will remind the party leader that the people of South East are depending on me.”
He also outlined plans to address the chaotic taxi operations in Junction, claiming that the Jamaica Labour Party is unable to manage the area’s rapid development.
“I know how to build taxi parks. Because a plenty of that I have a Spanish Town. I am going to give the taxi operators a place that they can use to ply their trade without being harassed,” Scott told supporters, assuring them that structured development is at the core of his vision for the constituency.
PNP President Mark Golding, who endorsed Scott at the event, praised his record of political leadership, citing his years of service as a councillor, mayor of St Catherine, and chair of the PNP Councillors’ Caucus.
“Comrades, in Norman Scott you have a very experienced political practitioner,” Golding said. “He is a man of action with a track record of delivering for the people he represents. The plans he has outlined today could never be delivered by the current member of parliament. But I believe Scott will get it done.”
Golding further described the JLP candidate, Franklin Witter as “a low energy individual,” contrasting that with what he called Scott’s proven ability to execute on behalf of his constituents.
