Racing United and Chapelton Maroons win back-to-back games to start JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica -Racing United and Chapelton Maroons made it two wins in a row after wins over former champions Waterhouse FC and Harbour View FC respectively as the second round of the Jamaica Premier League started on Sunday.
Racing United stayed top on goal-difference after beating 10-man Waterhouse FC 2-1 at Drewsland, while Chapelton Maroons were 2-0 winners over Harbour View FC in the first game of a double header at stadium east.
Meanwhile, Dunbeholden FC won their first game of the season, edging promoted Spanish Town Police 1-0 while Portmore United and Tivoli Gardens played out a 0-0 draw.
At Drewsland, Deandre Johnson came off the bench to score the winner in added time against Waterhouse FC, breaking a 1-1 deadlock and continuing their good start to the season.
Tajay Grant gave Racing United the lead in the 37th minute but the home team drew level in the 48th minute through an own goal.
After dominating the run of the game, Waterhouse FC’s Omani Leacock lashed out after he was fouled close to the half line in the 89th minute and was sent off. Racing United took full advantage of the numerical advantage and Johnson scored the winner as time ran out.
Chapelton Maroons dominated Harbour View and were rewarded with two good goals, Marcos Filho in the 41st minute and Carlton Brown in the 53rd minute.
Dunbeholden FC who were coming off a loss to Portmore United in the first week, were made to work hard before Nicholas Nelson broke the deadlock in the 86th minute.
It has been a difficult start for the promoted Spanish Town Police who were beaten 2-0 by Treasure Beach in their opening game.
