Seismic activity at Grenada’s Kick ‘em Jenny decreases significantly
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada (CMC) – Grenada’s National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) on Monday said the levels of seismic activity at the Kick ’em Jenny (KeJ) Submarine Volcano, which began on Wednesday, last week, “have decreased significantly”.
In a statement, NaDMA said that between August 31 and up to midday on Monday, “only one tremor was recorded measuring magnitude 1.3.”
But NaDMA said that although the tremor activity has decreased, the alert level remains at yellow, meaning that the volcano is restless and activity may be increasing.
“Residents are reminded to pay attention to official sources of information, and to follow all guidance provided by the NaDMA,” it said, adding that there are four colour alerts regarding the volcano with red being the most extreme and an eruption is in progress or may occur without further warning.
The last period of unrest at Kick’ em Jenny occurred between February 10 and 14 last year, during which over 3,400 events were recorded.
