Barbados warns travellers against fake websites
BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Barbadian authorities are warning against fake websites, urging travellers to the island to use only official government and tourism sites.
The Barbados Immigration Department said it has become aware of what appears to be a false artificial intelligence (AI) generated video currently being circulated online.
“This video contains misleading and inaccurate information regarding Barbados’ immigration visa policies and the Barbados Welcome Stamp programme.
“The department categorically states that the information presented in this video is false and should not be relied upon. These types of AI-generated materials are deliberately misleading and are created with nefarious intent.”
The Immigration Department is urging all citizens, residents, visitors, and potential travellers to rely only on official, trusted sources for accurate information about travel requirements and immigration processes related to Barbados.
“The circulation of this maliciously generated video undermines the integrity of the accurate information Barbados provides to visitors and international partners. For this reason, the public is strongly encouraged to verify all travel-related details only through official Barbados Government platforms.”
The Immigration Department said it also wanted to reassure all travellers and stakeholders that the island’s immigration policies “remain transparent, consistent and fully accessible through its official channels”.
“Any unofficial or suspicious content circulating online should be disregarded,” it added.
