Council of Churches encourages all enumerated Jamaicans to vote
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) is encouraging all enumerated Jamaicans to vote in Wednesday’s General Election.
“Voting fulfils both a right and a responsibility under the Constitution of Jamaica,” the JCC said Tuesday in a news release.
At the same time, the church group is commending Jamaicans for their “demonstration of the desire to engage the general elections in peace and fairness”.
“We applaud the churches for their commitment to faithful witness through fervent prayers and other acts of faith. Indeed, our religious leaders have led by example in attempting to ensure that the integrity of the polls is upheld. Their participation in the electoral system and engagement of observer missions are acts that align with the understanding of ‘faith that works,’” said the JCC.
It has also applauded Jamaicans for stridently maintaining their political allegiances while engaging in friendly rivalry and respectful encounters in their support for their respective political parties.
“We commend our political leaders for their contributions to the national conversation on their proposals on matters of policy and programmes for the next parliamentary cycle,” the JCC stated.
“Additionally, as Christians, we believe that this is also a sacred duty to participate in the upcoming elections…to faithfully, prayerfully, and responsibly exercise this civic duty,” the church group continued.
It has offered prayers for the success of the electoral process and for the well-being of all who will be engaged in the exercise.
