KFC spices $7-m children’s home donation with back-to-school treat
NEARLY 280 children from children’s homes across 14 parishes were hosted at Hope Zoo for a lively, fun-filled, back-to-school treat and fun day on Wednesday, August 27, thanks to a partnership between Restaurants of Jamaica, through its flagship brand KFC, and the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA).
The event formed part of KFC Jamaica’s 50th birthday celebrations which included a $7-million donation made to 14 of the island’s children’s homes.
The children toured the zoo, discovered animal exhibits, and enjoyed activities such as rock climbing, bounce-a-bouts, virtual reality gaming, and interactive video games. Each child also received back-to-school supplies from KFC to help them prepare for the new academic year.
KFC Jamaica Marketing Manager Andrei Roper said the event was about creating joy and motivation for the new school year.
“We wanted to give the children an experience that was fun, memorable, and meaningful as they prepare for the new school year. Education is vital but so too is joy, and this event was designed to provide both,” said Roper.
In the meantime, officials of CPFSA welcomed the initiative as they pointed out that efforts such as this positively impact the children’s sense of belonging.
“We were truly delighted when KFC requested to host this back-to-school treat for children in State care. It was a meaningful day that showed our children they are seen, valued, and supported by the wider community. For our team, it is always heartening to know that corporate partners like KFC provide financial support while also creating experiences that allow our children to feel celebrated and cared for,” said CPFSA Public Relations and Communications Manager Kristen Laing.
Children from 16 children’s homes across the island and participants in CPFSA’s Living in Family Environments (LIFE) programmes, including foster care, and family reintegration, were among the beneficiaries.
Laing also expressed appreciation for the supplies each child received including bags, books, pencils, and other stationery.
“The CPFSA makes every effort to ensure that our children are equipped for school, as their education remains a top priority. Initiatives like this give us the chance to stretch our resources into other critical areas of care,” added Laing.
The treat was supported by Pizza Hut, Pepsi Jamaica, and National Baking Company.
