RACE DAY REVIEW FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, 2025

FEATURED on the programme of 10 races was another staging of the O & S Tack Room Trophy, staged as race nine, for non-winners at the Overnight Allowance-level category. Offering odds of 5/2, Supremasi, disqualified from first in its previous race a month ago, led the seven-and-a-half-furlong gallop at all stages and gave none of the 12 rivals the prospect of overtaking, and was just over three lengths the best.

The well-built four-year-old progeny of Savoy Stomp, declared by former three-time champion Anthony Nunes, was piloted by claimer Romario for his fifth winning ride of the season from 46 opportunities this season. Nunes, who was not in attendance, added another four winners to his stable’s 2025 haul of 42 winners at the start of a day on which he trailed champion and leader Jason DaCosta by just under $10 million in stakes earnings, with four months of the season remaining.

Firstly, King Piye (5-1), a sluggard who needed strong handling, was aided by the athletic ability of claimer Anthony Allen as well as the sloppy underfoot conditions, and won race four. Well behind for the first six furlongs, King Piye won by a head over the extended circular nine-furlong course. Note: The track was officially declared sloppy for the remainder of the card.

For Nunes, race seven over the five-furlong straight course was won by Another One (7-5) in a driving finish. Partnered by 2011 champion Dick Cardenas, the winner was hard-pressed by 7-2-fancied filly Miss Moneypenny and had only a neck to spare at the line. The Nunes four-timer was confirmed by Comehometome(3-2) in the six-furlong nightcap. Robert Halledeen executed the riding honours for a victory by the narrowest winning distance of a nose.

The day’s opener, over six and a half furlongs, went to Rohan Mathhie’s front-runner Casual Peach by nearly three lengths, with claimer Tyrese Anderson securing his ninth success from 104 rides this year. Whilst in race two, Youville Pinnock, a rider of unquestioned ability, declared by Gary Griffiths, rode near four-length winner
Wayne’s Princess (4-5) for disappointingly, only his second win from the 81 rides secured in 2025.

Big Guy In The Sky (5-1), saddled by Michael Spencer and piloted by 2022 champion Dane Dawkins, prevailed from in front by a neck over 6/5 favourite Sudden Flight in the four-furlong straight sprint of race five. Dawkins secured a double when race eight, run at six and a half furlongs, went to Money Must (6-5), conditioned by Ricardo Brown, with a victory margin of two and a half lengths after being held up behind the two front-runners.

Race three, over six furlongs, went to 5-2 bet and former inmate of the Jason DaCosta champion outfit,
Lucy In The Sky (5-2). Ridden from in front by veteran Paul Francis, the four-year-old filly won by two and a half lengths for trainer Lydia Anglin. Candi Girl (5-1), from the stable of Byron Davis and ridden by claimer Demar Williams, was nearly five lengths the best at the end of the six-furlong sixth event restricted to maidens who had failed to finish second or third in any career start.

The Training Feat Award is presented to Anthony Nunes for the rare acomplishment of saddling three of the winners on the card, including Another One who displayed speed and courage under pressure to deliver the Best Winning Gallop. On a day when Cardenas and Halledeen were in the conversation prevailing in close finishes, all things considered, the Jockeyship Award goes to Dawkins for double success in contrasting styles.
