Carlisa opens branch in Portmore
Air-conditioning retailer and distributor Carlisa Enterprises has opened a branch in Portmore, adding a third physical location to its network as it chases growth in Jamaica’s “Sunshine City”.
The company announced the opening on social media recently and lists the site at Lot 22 West Trade Way, near Portmore Town Centre.
The Portmore outlet joins Carlisa’s Kingston headquarters on Retirement Road and its Montego Bay store at Southern Cross Circle, signalling a push to be closer to the island’s largest suburban market where housing and small business activity have been expanding. Its business model spans retail sales and commercial contracts.
On product mix, Carlisa continues to lean on its Windy-branded line of mini-split air conditioners, including inverter and non-inverter units from 9,000 BTU up to 36,000 BTU, as well as accessories and after-sales support advertised on its site. The company also sells fans, extractor systems, water pumps, pressure tanks and solar/tank water heaters — a broader catalogue that positions the brand for household and light commercial demand.
Pricing posted online suggests mid-market positioning. Recent listings show Windy inverter splits ranging roughly from the mid-$50,000s for smaller capacities to about $82,000 for 18,000-BTU models, with non-inverter options priced lower.
A quick comparison with other Jamaican retailers highlights Carlisa’s competitive pricing. Its 12,000 BTU inverter split is about $5,000 cheaper than Streamline units at CoolMarket, while its higher-capacity 36,000 BTU Windy models are priced in the $180,000 range—significantly lower than similarly sized units from Courts at just under $196,000.
Even for 18,000 BTU units, Carlisa offers better value than Startec, though slightly above the TCL Elite line at Enersave.
Why Portmore, and why now? The company did not immediately respond to this question. But beyond population density and new housing schemes, inverter ACs have been gaining traction among households looking to manage electricity costs. The move also plants Carlisa’s flag in one of Jamaica’s most commercially active corridors and deepens competition in a market where established players also court homeowners and SMEs.
Carlisa’s “all-inverter” catalogue and accessories suggest it is targeting that efficiency-driven segment, while the extra branch should shorten delivery and installation lead times for customers in St Catherine and surrounding environs.
