‘It should have been bigger’
Supporters react to Heroy Clarke’s third-straight win
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Supporters made it known Wednesday night that they had no doubt the incumbent, Heroy Clarke, would retain the St James Central seat.
Clarke fended off a challenge from the People’s National Party’s Janice Allen in a spirited contest and took the seat for a third-consecutive term.
“There are certain people who didn’t get to vote so just imagine if all of us got the right votes out; it would be bigger,” a jubilant Pauline Crooks told the Jamaica Observer.
She was part of a large crowd gathered on St Clavers Avenue to hear the results of the election. Crooks was ecstatic with the news that her candidate of choice won.
“Listen man, the man work; him work for the people, 100 per cent work! Infrastructure, job creation, he works for us, he doesn’t hide from us,” she stated.
“He is there for us 100 per cent,” Crooks continued.
She said Allen never had any hope of taking the seat from the Jamaica Labour Party’s Clarke.
“There was no chance for the other person, no chance, none,” declared Crooks.
Fellow Labourite Carla Smart was also dismissive of Allen’s chances.
“No, she can’t walk in Heroy’s shoes; no, she can’t step in that shoes, no competition not there,” she declared.
“Mi feel good, mi feel good!” Smart said when asked for an overall comment about Clarke’s victory.
Another man, who gave his name as Lee, explained why he thought Clarke would have retained the seat.
“Heroy is the best MP, best MP; him work hard for us. Anything we ask him, him do it, he’s not saying no, him do it for us!” he declared.
Lee explained that Clarke has been able to tackle a number of issues in the constituency for the benefit of the people.
“Him give us road, him give us water, anything we want, him give us, best MP,” he declared.
According to him, Clarke is someone they can relate to and that made a difference as well.
“If you talk to him, him talk to you and anything you want him give you,” Lee declared.
