MCCU awards over $2.6 million in bursaries, prizes for new academic year
KINGSTON, Jamaica—The Manchester Co-operative Credit Union (1977) Limited (MCCU) recently awarded a total of $2,649,000 in bursaries and prizes to support students for the 2025/2026 academic year.
“We take pride in recognising academic achievement and supporting the holistic development of young people. These bursaries and awards represent our continued commitment to fostering educational advancement and youth empowerment across Manchester and beyond,” stated general manager Kerrene Grant Brown.
MCCU has reaffirmed its intention to sustain and expand initiatives of this nature, underscoring its dedication to strengthening communities through education and youth development as they maintain their mantra “People Helping People”.
The awards ceremony was held at Neil’s Auditorium in Mandeville, Manchester.
MCCU presented 25 Primary Exit Profile (PEP) bursaries to assist students transitioning to the secondary level.
In addition, 12 tertiary students were awarded one-off bursaries to help offset tuition expenses at universities across Jamaica. The combined value of these bursaries amounted to $2,425,000.
The credit union also awarded the first, second and third-place winners of its recently concluded primary-level essay and poster competitions.
