Sentencing of mushroom meal murderer to be streamed live
The sentencing of an Australian woman, accused of killing three of her in-laws with a meal of death cap mushrooms added to their lunch, will be streamed live on Monday, according to media reports.
Erin Patterson was found guilty of three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder in relation to the lone survivor of the meal.
Reports are that she invited her estranged husband, his parents and his aunt and uncle to a July 2023 lunch. Her husband did not attend, but the four others did and were served the allegedly poisoned beef wellington. Hours later, the four attendees fell ill, and three died in hospital from organ failure.
Patterson maintained her innocence throughout the trial.
The Australian case has attracted international attention, and this has pushed Justice Christopher Beale, who will sentence Patterson, to, in a very rare instance, according to a CNN report, allow camera access from the Victoria Supreme Court.
A 12-member jury reached the guilty verdict in July after around six days of deliberation following a 10-week trial.
