Dwayne Bravo named T&T sports ambassador
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — Retired West Indies cricketer Dwayne Bravo has been appointed as a sports ambassador by the Trinidad and Tobago Government.
Sport Minister Phillip Watts, who made the announcement while speaking at a post-Cabinet meeting on Thursday, said Bravo, a former Test captain and two-time World Cup winner, had distinguished himself as one of T&T’s most celebrated sportsmen.
“He is internationally recognised as a premier cricketer, captain and all-rounder, having represented the West Indies cricket team with distinction,” Watts said.
“In addition to his cricketing accomplishments Mr Bravo has also made significant cultural contributions to music and ambassadorship in promoting Trinidad and Tobago worldwide.
“Currently, Mr Bravo is the head coach of the TKR [Trinbago Knight Riders] team, and Mr Bravo has also proven to be an international businessman who will bring much benefits to Trinidad and Tobago in this new role.”
Bravo, 41, represented the West Indies between 2004 and 2021, playing 164 One-Day Internationals, 91 Twenty20 Internationals and 40 Test matches.
He was a key member of the West Indies team that won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy, the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.
