Chapelton win third straight, Arnett grab first victory in JPL

Chapelton Maroons extended their club record start to the Jamaica Premier League to three straight wins on Sunday as they held off Portmore United 3-2 at Turners Oval.

With the win, the Clarendon side took over sole lead in the tables with nine points.

Chapelton returned to the league last year after a one season stint in the 2022-23 season. They just avoided relegation but have gotten off to a blistering start by beating three former champions – Tivoli Gardens, Harbour View and Portmore United.

Shemron Phillips fired Chapelton Maroons into the lead in the 18th minute but Rashaun Small pulled Portmore United back level in the 40th minute.

Andrew Vanzie restored the home team’s lead when he scored in the 60th minute and Brazilian Marcos Roas Filho made it 3-1 when he scored in the 74th minute.

Ramone Howell pulled a goal back in time added but that was as close as Portmore got.

Also on Sunday, Montego Bay United came from a goal down to beat Dunbeholden United 2-1; Arnett Gardens scored their first win, hammering Harbour View 5-2; and Treasure Beach FC came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw against Molynes United at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.

Lucas Lima and Dwight Merrick scored late to rescue Montego Bay after an own goal had given Dunbeholden United the lead.

Leonardo Rankine, making his first appearance for Montego Bay this season, inadvertently scored on his own goalkeeper in the 53rd minute to break the deadlock. Lima, however, pulled the visitors level in the 79th minute before Merrick scored the winner in the 89th minute.

Fabian Reid marked his first start of the season, scoring a double as Arnett Gardens swamped hapless Harbour View 5-2 at Stadium East. Five of the seven goals came in the second half after they were tied 1-1 at halftime and then 2-2 early in the second half before Arnett Gardens took over the game.

Rushike Kelson, who has scored in all three games played so far, gave Arnett Gardens the lead in the 36th minute and Omar Thompson equalised in the 41st minute.

Reid got his first in the 48th minute before Harbour View drew level through Rohan Brown in the 51st minute.

Tarique Jones restored Arnett’s lead in the 60th minute, Reid completed his double in the 76th minute and Jamone Shepherd scored the fifth in the 84th minute.

Molynes United were denied their first win of the season as Treasure Beach FC rebounded from a loss at Montego Bay United and rallied for a draw.

After a goal-less first half, the teams combined for three goals in a four-minute span.

Marlon Pennicooke, who came off the bench at the start of the second half, gave Molynes United the lead in the 67th minute, but it lasted all of two minutes before Raheem Porter, himself a second half substitute, pulled the home team level, in the 69th minute.

Enrique Gordon restored Molynes United’s lead in the 71st minute but another substitute, Kevoan McGregor snatched a point for the home team when he scored two minutes into time added.
