Legacy Isle stamps class on None Such Sprint
FIVE-YEAR-OLD American-bred bay horse Legacy Isle dominated the competition in the $1.75-million None Such Sprint, the main attraction on the nine-race card at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Despite the absence of contenders Desert of Malibu and Wall Street Trader, Legacy Isle didn’t disappoint, delivering a spectacular performance that showcased his exceptional speed and talent when making every post a winning one in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest. Trained by Rohan Crichton,
Legacy Isle posted 1:12.0 (23.1 x 46.0) for the six-furlong (1,200m) event.
The outcome was all but certain shortly after the gates burst open. Legacy Isle and Pack Plays, ridden by Shane Richardson, engaged in a fierce battle for the lead, neck and neck, as they pulled away from the rest of the field.
As they approached the half-mile mark, jockey Raddesh Roman gave Legacy Isle a notch more freedom and the gelding quickly responded. He coupled up seamlessly and began to assert his dominance, rapidly opening up a significant gap over Pack Plays.
At the top of the stretch Legacy Isle unleashed a display of speed, effortlessly claiming victory by three and a half lengths. A mere three cracks from the whip were all Roman needed to remind Legacy Isle he was still in contention — a testament to the horse’s exceptional talent and class. Is That A Fact, ridden by Shaheem Gordon, and Pack Plays completed the frame in that order.
It was the second winner on the day for Roman who also won aboard High Diplomacy in the third race for trainer Anthony Nunes.
Also with two winners was apprentice rider Demar Williams. He was successful aboard Strong Mind in the sixth race for trainer Patrick Lynch and aboard Bulletproofcoffee, trained by Owen Sharpe, in the night pan – the $1.25-million Trevor McKenzie Memorial Trophy.
The action continues today with a nine-race card starting at 12:15 pm.
