Arnett’s record-breaking goalscorer Reid harbours World Cup dream
ARNETT Gardens FC Captain Fabian Reid says he is dreaming of playing at next year’s FIFA World Cup, after becoming the first player in history to score 100 goals in the Jamaica Premier League.
The 34-year-old reached the milestone on Sunday by scoring a brace in Arnett’s 5-2 win over Harbour View FC at Waterhouse Stadium.
With the score level 2-2 at the half-time break Reid led the way with two easy tap-ins in the 49th and 77th minutes.
Rushike Kelson, Tarique Jones and Jamone Shepherd were the other scorers for Arnett, while Omar Thompson and Rohan Brown got the goals for Harbour View.
Reid was grateful to have etched his name in the history books.
“I’m not really watching the time I have left in the league but I know I can add a whole heap more. I just have to work on my body, take care of my body, get my proper rest, so I can last longer in the season,” he said.
Reid has seven caps for Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz but hasn’t been a mainstay in the team since making his debut in 2017.
However, he wants to be part of the set-up to help Steve McClaren’s side qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
“I still want a call-up to the Jamaica team because it’s coming to the World Cup and you’re going to need experience and a goalscorer but I have to continue working,” Reid said.
The win was also of significance to Arnett who registered their first win of the season after losing their first two games to Cavalier and Racing United.
