Pretty Perfect makes timely surge to claim ‘Fanna’ Griffiths Classic
WITH several horses with winning chances spread across the track, the Gary Subratie-trained Pretty Perfect made a remarkable late surge in the nick of time to win the $3.75-million Winston “Fanna” Griffiths OD Classic feature at Caymanas Park on Sunday.
Pretty Perfect’s journey to the finishing line in the Graded Stakes contest for native-bred three-year-olds over nine and a half furlongs (1,900m) was nothing short of impressive. Unable to keep pace with the early leaders she sat well off the pace, biding her time. However, when the moment of truth arrived she found her groove and unleashed a stunning stretch run.
As the finishing line approached the tension was palpable. Pretty Perfect (Dane Dawkins) , Alchemy of Souls (Clive Lynch), Woman In Love (Raddesh Roman), Boss Man (Reyan Lewis), and Big Buzz (Omar Walker) were locked in a fierce battle for supremacy. In the end, Pretty Perfect’s determination paid off as she edged out Alchemy of Souls by a mere half-length, with Woman In Love just a length adrift in third. The winning time was 2:06.0.
It was the second winner on the nine-race card for Dawkins who had earlier won aboard Train of Thought in the fifth race for trainer Steven Todd.
Also with two winners was apprentice jockey Tyrese Anderson. He won aboard Military Light in the third race for trainer Gary Griffiths and Perfect Affair in the seventh race for trainer Anthony Nunes.
Racing continues on the weekend with races on Saturday and Sunday.
