Man to compensate ex for damaging phone and shoes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An iPhone XR and a pair of work shoes landed a man before the Kingston and St Andrew parish court on Tuesday, after his ex-girlfriend accused him of damaging both during a confrontation at her home.
According to the complainant, the man identified as Matthew Barrett has been harassing her and, during a visit to her home, destroyed her mobile phone which she valued at approximately $85,000, along with shoes worth $9,000.
Barrett, however, objected to her valuation of the phone, claiming it was purchased in 2023 for about $40,000.
The matter was referred to mediation, where both parties reached an agreement for Barrett to compensate her. He is scheduled to make payments on September 30 and October 30 as part of the arrangement.
The case has been set to resume in court on November 7.
