Rushell Clayton out of Worlds with injury
TWO-TIME World Championships medal winner Rushell Clayton has been forced to withdraw from the Jamaican team due to an injury.
Clayton, who won bronze medals in the 400m hurdles at the 2019 and 2023 instalments in Doha and Budapest, respectively, has been the country’s most successful and consistent athlete in the event over the past few seasons.
However, the 32-year-old national champion has been struggling with a leg injury this season.
Sanique Walker, the NACAC silver medal winner, was named as an alternate on Jamaica’s team to the World Championships for the women’s 400m hurdles.
Clayton, who has a personal best of 52.51 seconds which was done last year, is the second-fastest Jamaican in history behind Melanie Walker (52.42), and ranks as the 11th-fastest woman in history in the event.
The championships will get under way on Saturday at the National Stadium in Tokyo and will conclude on September 21.
Members of Jamaica’s contingent arrived in Tokyo on Wednesday (Tuesday, Jamaica time) after a 10-day training camp in Tottori.
