Up to late Wednesday evening in Tokyo, three Jamaican athletes were yet to arrive at the team hotel ahead of the World Athletics Championships in Japan.

Team officials were aware of the athletes’ arrival schedule and are expecting Nikoali Williams, Christopher Taylor and Ralford Mullings to join their teammates before the start of competition on Saturday at the Japan National Stadium.

Mullings, a medal contender in the Discus event, after a season which saw him register a national record of 72.01m, is expected in the country on Saturday. Williams will compete in the men’s long jump, while Taylor will make his return to the world stage in the 200m event.

Meanwhile, Assistant Team Manager Julette Parkes says everything is in place for the athletes to give of their best, and described the training camp in Tottori as a huge success and stepping stone to a successful campaign.

“I must say that we had the support of most of the athletes. I think only about 12 athletes were not in camp and the major clubs were all represented,” Parkes told the Jamaica Observer from the team’s hotel.

“Each day the activities planned for the athletes were exceptional and not only catered to their training but their socialisation; it was an all-encompassing camp environment.”

Parkes says that there is strong bond between the athletes and believes this will reflect on the track over the coming days.

“The mood is great, the camaraderie is good and that’s what a camp does, it brings everybody together and I think they are ready for a great championship,” said Parkes.
