‘Skill’ bows out
Dear Editor,
It was pure magic at his feet that made his portrait a masterpiece in football’s gallery of stars.
It was his ball sense that mastered the play beyond one’s imagination into the realm of disbelief.
It was his honest commitment to country and selfless and abiding love for the sport he plied
that separated him from the anonymity of the crowd.
Allan “Skill” Cole may not have belonged to a royal household of ancient lineage, but he was, however, Jamaica’s gilded royalty whose sovereignty on the field grounded him and remains an invaluable lesson to successive generations of youth.
As he bows out from the field of play, the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) salutes him with our heads raised and eyes on the legacy he has gifted to today’s prodigy and tomorrow’s wizard.
