Firefighters from 3 parishes monitoring overturned petrol tanker in Trelawny
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Members of the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) and the Jamaica Constabulary Force are currently on the scene in Carey Park, where an overturned tanker trailer transporting petrol is blocking the roadway.
Vehicular traffic has been diverted. Motorists travelling from Duncans are being routed to Rock via Clarks Town, and drivers coming from the opposite direction are advised to use the same detour.
Firefighters from the neighbouring parishes of St Ann and St James are assisting their Trelawny counterparts.
According to Superintendent Roland Walters, who heads the Trelawny Division of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, firefighters responded swiftly after receiving the call shortly after 8:00 am on Friday.
“At about 8:12 am we received a call that a tanker trailer transporting butane overturned in the Carey Park area. Upon our arrival, we observed the tanker trailer on its side in the middle of the road,” Walters told Observer Online.
“We managed to cool the container until a maintenance team from IGL arrived. So far, the area was evacuated, and we are monitoring the activities here.”
“As we speak, we have assistance from St Ann and St James. The Trelawny police are also here with us, monitoring the activities. So far, the scene is rendered stable,” he added.
