Former champions on the hunt for 3rd-straight wins in daCosta Cup

Ten schools, including former champions Frome Technical and Rusea’s High in Zone B, will be going after third-straight wins when the ISSA daCosta Cup competition continues with a mammoth schedule of 35 games this afternoon.

Maldon High, who had lost all their opening games for the past eight seasons, are also going after three wins, as well as BB Coke High, Manchester High, Alphansus Davis High, Christiana High, Ocho Rios High and Port Antonio High.

Defending champions Garvey Maceo High and ISSA Champions Cup holders Glenmuir High will also be going for back-to-back victories. Elsewhere, the schedule in Zone L is set to get going.

Despite pre-season concerns about his goalkeepers, Cleighton Stephens has guided Frome to two wins without conceding a goal. They will now take aim at Cambridge High.

Frome have beaten Cambridge the last four times the teams have faced each other, and that run is expected to be extended.

Rusea’s will travel the short distance to face Green Island High and will start favourites to win ahead of the major clash against Frome in Lucea on Tuesday.

Maldon are off to their best daCosta Cup start, building on last season’s historic qualification for the second round.

They are set to host Herbert Morrison Technical, who are coming off their first win of the season — over Green Pond High. Based on the form book, Maldon should extend their winning run to three games.

BB Coke High are off to a bright start, beating Munro College and Maggotty High. They are to go up against St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), who were held 0-0 by Newell High.

The teams shared wins last season, each victorious away from home. BB Coke High will hope they can extend their winning start but STETHS will be going after their first win as they hope to stay close to the early leaders.

Manchester High, who have scored 11 goals in their two games so far, face May Day High, who are off to a good start. May Day have picked up four points from two matches, after losing all eight games last season.

Alphansus Davis High and Christiana High hold identical statistics at the top of Zone G, and face Alston High and Bellefield High, respectively.

Alston High have conceded 10 goals so far in their two games and Alphansus Davis High will hope to add even more against their opponents.

Christiana High take on a Bellefield High team that won 7-0, then lost 0-3 in their two games.

Ocho Rios High will hope to at least replicate last year’s season when they achieved their best-ever results, and are expected to get the better of Discovery Bay High, who have lost both their outings this season.

Garvey Maceo were easy winners over Foga Road High in the opening game last weekend. They take on former champions Vere Technical, while Glenmuir High meet Denbigh High in the second game of a double-header.

Glenmuir High put 13 goals past Bustamante High on Wednesday and will be hungry for more.
