Tokyo 2025: Kishane Thompson leads Jamaican men into 100m semi-finals
National champion and world leader Kishane Thompson led all three Jamaicans through to the semi-final of the men’s 100m after the first round of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan on Saturday.
Thompson, Ackeem Blake and Oblique Seville were automatic qualifiers, finishing in the top three in their respective first round heats.
Thompson cruised to a 9.95 seconds (0.1m/s) win, easily beating Canada’s Eliezer Adjibi- 10.19 seconds, and Colombia’s Ronal Longa, 10.21 seconds, who also advanced.

Blake was second in his heat in 10.07 seconds (-1.1m/s), behind American defending champion Noah Lyles who ran 9.95 seconds with Terrence Jones of the Bahamas third with 10.16 seconds.
Seville was left back in the blocks and had to power his way into an automatic qualifying spot, placing third in his heat in 9.93 seconds (0.3m/s). Gift Leotleta of South Africa ran a personal best 9.87 seconds to win with Kayinsola Ajayi of Nigeria second with 9.88 seconds, also a lifetime best.
