‘It’s God’
Davina Bennett grateful to be alive after being hit by car in New York
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Former Miss Universe Jamaica, Davina Bennett, says she is grateful to be alive after she was hit by a motor vehicle on September 13 while in New York for her first fashion week.
Bennett, on Sunday, in a captioned video post on Instagram recollected the moments leading up to the incident.
“September 13, 2025, definitely one for the books. I finished walking for the incredible and talented @kahlanabarfield, who has a collaboration with @target ! There was an after-party, but I decided to call it a night and head home to rest after a string of shows with minimal sleep. As I walked into my neighborhood, off the train and just minutes from home, I stopped at a pedestrian crossing. I pressed the walk signal button, put one AirPod in my ear, and weirdly turned on some gospel music while waiting. When the signal came, I stepped off the curb, and that’s when I was hit! The next thing I knew, I was waking up in an ambulance, with paramedics telling me what had happened. I was scared, confused, crying, and in shock, my mind was a complete blank (and still is),” she wrote.
Bennett further noted that she later alerted her loved ones who rushed to the hospital to be with her.
“At first, I wasn’t in too much pain, probably due to adrenaline. But as I started noticing bruises all over my body, reality began to sink in. My agent called to confirm another show for the next day, but when I told him what happened, he was devastated and insisted I wouldn’t be able to make it. I was devastated! No, I am devastated. I’d been working so hard for months to get to this point only for this to happen. The doctor came in and said, ‘considering what I’ve heard, it’s extraordinary that you don’t have any broken bones or fractures, just bruises and pain.’ I smiled and said, ‘It’s God’,” she continued, noting that she is currently in severe pain but grateful to be alive.
“This might be the end of my first fashion week, I’m currently in severe pain, but I’m grateful to be alive. They say as long as you have life, there’s hope. This was unfortunate, but it won’t be the end of my journey. I’m grateful to God I’m still here to keep chasing my dreams,” she added.
