Racing continue perfect start with win over Treasure Beach
Racing United continued their bright start to the Jamaica Premier League on Sunday, outscoring Treasure Beach FC 4-2 at the STETHS Sports Complex in Santa Cruz for their third consecutive win.
The win took Racing to nine points from three games, marginally ahead of Chapelton Maroons who had their perfect start ended when they were beaten 1-0 by a resurgent Arnett Gardens at Turners Oval.
Also on Sunday, Mt Pleasant FA got their first win of the season, coming from behind to beat defending champions Cavalier SC 2-1 at Drax Hall while Portmore United edged Spanish Town Police FC 1-0.
At the STETHS Sports Complex, Javaughn Cole came off the bench at the start of the second half to score a brace for Racing as all six goals came in the second half.
Nickyle Ellis gave Racing the lead in the 47th minute and Cole added a second in the 61st.
Raheem Porter pulled a goal back for Treasure Beach in the 64th minute but Cole completed his brace in the 72nd to restore Racing’s two goal lead at 3-1.
Kevoan McGregor, a second half substitute, gave Treasure Beach hope when he scored in the 78th minute to cut the deficit to one goal but Deandre Johnson killed off that hope when he scored for Racing in the 85th minute.
At Turner’s Oval, Roderick Granville’s 57th minute goal was enough for Arnett Gardens to grab their second win in a row after losing their first two in a row, handing Chapelton their first loss of the season in the process.
After back-to-back draws to start the season, Mt Pleasant FA trailed arch-rivals Cavalier SC late and were staring down a loss until two goals in the last 12 minutes of regulation time rescued them.
Christopher Ainsworth put Cavalier SC in the lead when he converted from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute but Daniel Green pulled Mt Pleasant FA level when he also scored from the spot in the 78th minute.
A series of errors from the Cavalier defence allowed second half substitute Raheem Edwards to pick up an errant clearance from goal keeper Jeadine White, power his way between two defenders and score the winner into an unprotected goal in the 89th minute.
In the first game of the double header, Portmore United rebounded from last weekend’s loss to Chapelton Maroons to beat promoted Spanish Town Police 1-0 with Orlando Russell scoring in the 68th minute.
