Trainer Patrick Lynch grabs spotlight with 500th winner
Despite the outright win by Mojito in the $1.25-million Kenneth Mattis OD Memorial Trophy feature, it was trainer Patrick Lynch who stole the show on Sunday when he saddled his 500th career winner on the nine-race card at Caymanas Park.
Lynch achieved the landmark in the fourth race with Royal Maverick, ridden by apprentice Demar Williams.
Royal Maverick came from behind runners to beat Humility (Jaheim Anderson) by a head over six furlongs (1,200m).
Mojito, trained by Richard Azan and ridden Raddesh Roman, dominated the competition to romp home by 9 ½ lengths in the Overnight Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m).
Mojito won ahead of Unspun (Richie Stakes) and Super Alex (Jaheim Anderson) in a time of 1:55.2.
It was the third winner on the day for Roman who had earlier won aboar T Brady in the first race for trainer Peter-John Parsard and Goodbye Firefly in the eighth race for trainer Spencer Chung.
Racing is set to continue on Saturday.
