KINGSTON, Jamaica — A Nannyville Gardens mother is demanding justice after her 27-year-old son was allegedly shot and killed by police inside their home Monday morning.

Noting that she plans to take the matter to the Independent Commission of Investigations (Indecom), Rosemarie Walker, recounted what she said were the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting of her son Nicardo Lewis.

According to Walker, about 3:00 am, her daughter went to the bathroom and heard knocking at the back door.

“She say ‘mommy, mommy, it sound like police,” Walker recalled.

She said she opened the door and was met with what she described as a “big gun”.

“I said ‘what’s the problem?’ Them come. I said ‘you have a warrant to search?’ [They said] yes, yes; they still never give me no warrant,” Walker told Observer Online.

The mother said her other son then opened the door and the officers “barged” in and went to Nicardo’s room, asking who was with him, to which he responded he had his baby.

Walker alleged the police then took the baby from her son, handed the baby to her boyfriend and then turned the gun on Nicardo and shot him.

She said her other son ran off to the bathroom where he begged for his life as police rushed him. She further alleged that police took one of their guns, put it in his hands and fired one shot.

“My son is not a gunman. My son live inside here with his one-year-old baby and they take the baby out of my son hand and murder my child, and I need justice for my son,” Walker said.

The police said they are investigating the incident but could not confirm the identity of the deceased.
