Alleged chat with boyfriend through jail window lands woman in court
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A woman accused of communicating with her prisoner boyfriend, therefore breaching the Corrections Act, has denied any wrongdoing as she explained to the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court that she was merely in the parking lot at the time.
The accused, Patrice Johnson, appeared in court on Tuesday after being charged with communicating with a prisoner, which is an offence under the Corrections Act.
According to police reports, Johnson was allegedly seen speaking to her boyfriend, who was in custody at the Constant Spring lock-up, through a window at the facility. Two police officers reportedly witnessed the incident and filed a report.
Johnson, however, has denied the accusation, admitting that she was in the parking lot at the time but said she was not attempting to speak with the inmate.
The matter is to return to court on November 21.
