Murders on the rise in St Ann
ST ANN, Jamaica — There has been an increase in murders in the parish of St Ann since the start of the year.
A total of 45 murders has been recorded when compared to 39 in the corresponding period last year, with the most recent being the death of a 30-year-old steel pipe worker in Runaway Bay on Wednesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Edoniel Crawford.
Reports are that Crawford and a friend were working on a vehicle sometime after 11:00 pm when they were pounced upon by unknown assailants travelling in an Axio motorcar.
It is alleged that the gunmen exited the vehicle and opened fire on both men. Crawford was hit but the other man managed to escape without injuries, according to reports.
The police are investigating the motive behind the shooting.
St Ann has recorded four murders since the start of the month.
