Dane McKenzie off the mark
The Jamaica Racing Commission’s Jockeys’ Training School Class of 2024 is riding high, with several graduates making a name for themselves in the horse racing world.
Demar Williams is leading the pack with 29 wins, followed closely by Richie Shakes with 27 victories. Tajay Suckoo, Emelio McLean, and Tyrese Anderson are also showcasing their skills, with 15, 12, and 11 wins, respectively.
But for some graduates, the wait for that elusive first win had been long. That was until Dane McKenzie broke through on Sunday, September 14. Riding Rock-Ola, trained by Michael Marlowe, McKenzie earned his first career victory in a maiden condition race for four-year-olds and up over six and a half furlongs. Rock-Ola dominated from the start, crossing the finish line eight lengths ahead of Empressinthebreeze and Sweet Bern, with a impressive time of 1:25.4.
McKenzie’s win is due to the hard work and dedication of the young jockeys. As the Class of 2024 continues to make strides, their achievements serve as inspiration for aspiring jockeys and demonstrate the potential for growth and success in the industry. With talent and determination, these young riders are sure to leave their mark on the racing industry.
