Opposition puts Gov’t on notice; PM outlines vision for Jamaica
The first signals of what is expected to be an extremely energetic legislature emerged on Thursday with the Opposition stating firmly that it will be holding the Government accountable for the promises it made to the country in the general election campaign.
Additionally, the reappointment of Juliet Holness as Speaker, which was not supported by the Opposition, triggered a suggestion by Opposition Leader Mark Golding that the Parliament was off to a bad start.
At the same time, Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness doubled down on his aspiration to transform Jamaica in such a way that sustained economic growth, low crime rates, affordable housing, and First World infrastructure are the order of the day.
He also insisted that the Government’s third term in office is not about personal legacy; rather, it is about Jamaica achieving nothing less than greatness.
