Tokyo 2025: Anderson again breaks national record, finishes 7th in 800m
Navasky Anderson ran yet another national record as he finished a courageous seventh in the men’s 800m final at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships on Saturday.
Anderson, the first Jamaican man to contest the 800m final at the World Athletics Championships, clocked 1:42.76 in the final, taking almost a second off the 1:43.72 national record he ran in the semi-finals.
He was well placed, in fourth, after 400 metres and looked set to make a run at a medal but was passed in the final 60 metres.
Olympic champion, Kenya’s Emmanuel Wanyoni won with a championship record 1:41.86, Algeria’s Djamel Sedjati was second in a season’s best 1:41.90 and Marco Arop of Canada, the winner in 2023, took the bronze with a season’s best 1:41.95.
