Sone G feeling honoured about Reggae North Music Awards nomination
Known for recording gospel songs to secular beats, Sone G is up against some formidable rivals in the Top Trap/Fusion Dancehall Song category, at the September 28 Reggae North Music Awards in Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
The Clarendon-born singer’s Find A Way is one of six songs in that slot.
“It’s a great honour to be recognised as always it shows that the work is of a high standard and that people are connecting with the music,” Sone G told Observer Online.
Born To Be Free by multiple Juno Award winner Exco Levi, Broken Dreams (Onique), Jah Jah A Guide (Legatomuzic), Karma (Skystar) and Real Father by Neto Youth are the other contenders for Top Trap/Fusion Dancehall Song.
Like most of his songs, Sone G says Find A Way was inspired by life experiences.
“The song is special because it’s from a real place, many people are facing many situations that they find to be hopeless or are being told consistently that there is no way out,” he said. “The song then speaks of drawing hope and strength from the Creator who is the one who can make impossible situations possible.”
The Reggae North Music Awards will held at the Rose Theatre in Brampton, a city with a large Jamaican community. Over 20 categories are being contested.
First held in 2024, it is organised by singer Tony Anthony, a veteran of the Canadian reggae scene.
