Tokyo triumph
Jamaica capture 1 gold, 6 silver, 3 bronze at World Champs
TALK that the Jamaica track and field programme is in trouble was put to rest over nine days in Tokyo, Japan, as a galaxy of future stars, and a handful of veterans, shone brightly with several personal best performances as they mined 10 medals.
Leading the pack was 24-year-old Oblique Seville who captured gold in the men’s 100m, while at 38 years old the greatest female sprinter of all time, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, bookended her glittering career with silver in the women’s 4x100m relay.
Jamaica finished 10th on the medal table and third in the medal count, behind the USA and Kenya.
