Manchester High, Cedric Titus, Glenmuir extend winning starts
MANCHESTER High, Cedric Titus High and Glenmuir High all extended their perfect win records after scoring wins in their ISSA daCosta Cup football game played on Monday.
Manchester High raced to six straight wins after a 2-1 win over Belair High in Zone F; Cedric Titus brushed aside Spot Valley High 3-1 for five straight in Zone D; while Glenmuir High completed a 4-1 win over Vere Technical in Zone I, their fourth-straight win.
Jevohntae Gordon scored both goals for Manchester High — and his 11th goal in their last four games — after he bagged hat-tricks in their previous three as they raced to 18 points.
Terron Eccleston also scored a brace for Cedric Titus as they romped to another win, with Eccleston improving to 11 goals.
Glenmuir High led Vere Technical 3-1 on Saturday before their game was blown off due to bad weather. They added another goal today as they motored to a fourth win to join defending champions Garvey Maceo on 12 points.
Cornwall College came from a goal down to beat Green Pond High 4-1 in their Zone A return-round game played at Green Island.
Jerome Whynn gave Green Pond the win in only the second minute, the first goal conceded by Cornwall College this season after going 362 minutes before conceding their first goal of the season.
Marcane Gooden equalised before Ameche Robinson gave Cornwall College the lead just before half-time while Kavontae Gooden and Nickane Brown added second-half goals to complete the comeback.
Maldon High stayed a point back of Cornwall College after a 5-1 win over St James High, the second-straight home game in which they were scoring five goals.
Antwayne Cooper scored a double for Frome Technical as they beat Anchovy High 4-0 in their second-round Zone B game, with Wayne Mullings and an own goal being responsible for the other goals.
Rusea’s High blanked Knockalva Technical 2-0 in their game while Green Island High came from a goal down to beat Cambridge High 3-2 at Jarrett Park.
Clarendon College took sole leadership of Zone H after beating Central High 2-1 with goals from Jaheim Senior in the 19th minute and Nayar Anderson in the 26th minute before Alrick Archer scored a consolation late in time added in the second half.
McGrath High rebounded from last weekend’s first loss of the season to beat Charlemont High 2-0 in their Zone J return-round game.
