2025/26 NFL season: After Week 3 nail-biters, Week 4 is highly anticipated
Entering Week 4 of the 2025/26 National Football League (NFL) regular season, the proverbial cream of the crop is rising, while the also-rans are beginning to reveal themselves, with six teams without a win, and six undefeated teams across the league.
Week 3 was a real head-turner, particularly the games on Sunday that saw seven being decided by a winning score in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. Of course, there was a handful of blowouts — fans of the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys can attest — but the majority of the encounters were nail-biters, which tied the NFL record for most games in a single week with a game-winning score that late in the game, equalling the record set in Week 15 of the 2022 season. That said, the marquee match-up on Monday night didn’t disappoint either, as the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions put on a show which, unfortunately for the Ravens, ended in a 30-38 loss.
The Ravens, after setting a franchise record for scoring 40+ points in their first two games of the season, found themselves at the short end, in the jaws of the Lions. Their inability to stop a potent offence, at the most critical times, ultimately led to their downfall (again), plus another untimely fumble by running back Derrick Henry, who has had one every game this season, didn’t help their cause. And, to add insult to injury, the Ravens, with a 1-2 record, have totalled 111 points through their first three games, which is the most by any team in NFL history with a losing record. The Ravens currently lead the league in total points scored, with the closest being the Lions and the undefeated Indianapolis Colts, with 103 each.
On the topic of undefeated, along with the Colts, the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, all have a 3-0 record entering Week 4, with the Bills looking the most dominant of the group, the Eagles finding every which way to win, and the 49ers, with a slew of injured starters, digging deep to come up with thrilling victories. All undefeated teams are on tap this weekend, but only one match-up will put a pair of 3-0 teams together, thereby guaranteeing a blotch on at least one team’s record.
The high-flying Eagles travel to Raymond James Stadium early Sunday afternoon to tackle the Buccaneers, where one team will etch their first mark in the loss column. The Eagles have lost this fixture over the last two seasons, but they are favoured by JustBet entering the weekend, as Tampa Bay’s quarterback (QB) Baker Mayfield, who has started the season on fire, may be missing his two main targets in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and could find this challenge a bit, well, challenging.
Of course, the Philadelphia defence has been a bit chaotic in their run-stopping, allowing 133.3 yards on the ground per game, and the passing game has not been given high marks either, averaging only 146.7 yards through the air, ranking 29th in the NFL. On the other hand, the Tampa Bay rush defence has been excellent, allowing only 84 running yards, ranking sixth in the NFL, while their own ground game is averaging 130.7 yards, mainly from running back Bucky Irving, who has had three superb outings this season. However, while the Eagles are barely getting by, offensively, winning their first three games by an average of 4.5 points, their opponents this week have not been lighting up the scoreboard either, with an average winning margin of 2 points this season, so that will be a plus for the defending champions. The Eagles are favoured by a field goal, and, with the expected absence of Evans and Goddard, they are expected to keep their undefeated record intact and improve to 20-1 over the span of two seasons.
The Los Angeles Rams (2-1) welcome the undefeated Colts into SoFi Stadium on Sunday afternoon for an expected ding-dong encounter. The Rams, who have had the better of these opponents in their last four meetings, enter the weekend as JustBetfavourites, but they will be up against QB Daniel Jones, who is playing at an exceptional level, as if sending a message to the New York Giants that they should not have let him go. Jones, in his first year in Indianapolis, has registered an NFL-first mark: the first QB in the Super Bowl era with three passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns, and zero interceptions in his first three starts. There is no guarantee that this will translate into a 4-0 start, but the air is ripe for an upset and this may be that game.
The other highly anticipated game in Week 4 features two underperforming teams, but two of the best dual-threat QBs in today’s NFL: Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs (1-2) and Lamar Jackson of the Ravens (1-2). The Chiefs enter the weekend as JustBet underdogs at home and, truth be told, they are more deserving of their dismal record than their opponents. Were it not for the highlight reels expected from both QBs, this game would not hold the thrilling anticipation it is enjoying.
Despite their record, the Ravens are one of the best team in the NFL, while the Chiefs look like a shadow of their former selves. The Kansas City defence, Chris Jones aside, isn’t what it used to be, and they have struggled for consistency and explosiveness on offence. For the Ravens, Henry has had an unbelievable start to his season from a production standpoint (242 yards on 41 carries, averaging 5.9 yards per rush, while scoring three touchdowns), but has fumbled in all three games, something that hasn’t been an issue for him in the past. The Chiefs have struggled against the run and this, along with turnovers, should be the deciding factors. Both teams will try to build some critical momentum from this game, as both try to avoid a 1-3 hole, however, it would take a mammoth defensive performance from Kansas City to have a shot at avoiding their second defeat at home this season.
