Alchemy of Souls hard to beat in Reprieve Trophy
THE $1.1-million Reprieve Trophy is set to take place tomorrow as the second race of the day. This prestigious event honours the exceptional thoroughbred Reprieve, a distinguished Jamaica Derby winner.
The Reprieve Trophy is open to local three-year-olds who haven’t won more than one race, and three-year-old imported maidens. The race will cover a distance of nine furlongs (1,800m) –– a relatively rare distance in horse racing.
Six talented thoroughbreds will face off in this competition, each vying for the top spot and the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide analysis each runner.
1. PRETTY BROWN TING: (3 b f by Northern Giant – Sexy Moon) – Pretty Brown Ting doesn’t seem to have a chance of winning this race. Her last performance doesn’t suggest she can compete effectively with the other contenders.
2.MR LEE: (3 gr c by Spieth – Kipling Weekend) – Mr Lee has been struggling to find his form recently. While he might not be expected to win, in a small field like this he could still run a good race and potentially finish in a decent position, just shy of the top spot.
3. STAR QUEST: (3 b c by Northern Giant – Thegirlnextdoor) – Star Quest showed some promise with a decent fourth-place finish behind Mark My Identity on September 13. He has good pace, which could make him a tough competitor in this race. Depending on how he performs, he might just challenge for a top spot.
4. ALCHEMY OF SOULS: (3 gr c by Spieth – Emerald Belle) – Having broken his maiden after nine attempts on July 13, Alchemy of Souls then went on to place fourth in the Derby. He followed this up with a strong performance in the Winston Griffiths Classic during which he was narrowly edged out for the win and finished second. Given his success over longer distances the nine-furlong Reprieve Trophy seems tailor-made for him. With his form and suitability for the distance, he’s a tough contender to overlook.
5. FAMILY FEUD: (3 dk b/br f by Successful Native – Fallabakami) – Difficult seeing Family Feud winning this.
6. FLAG OF VICTORY (USA): (3 ch f by Point of Entry – Run The Flag) – Can safely be bypassed.
