American Aviator to lead home rivals in RonRon Trophy
THE $1.19-million RonRon Trophy takes centre stage on tomorrow’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park. The Restricted Stakes contest for imported three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds (non-winners of four) will run over six furlongs (1,200m).
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at the eight runners entered and their chances of winning the trophy race.
1. LOCKDOWN: (3 ch c by Strikewhileitshot – Aria) – Lockdown is a capable runner but, based on past performances, is unlikely to make a significant impact in this race.
2. BOWMORE : (USA) (3 b c by Complexity – Colonel Dettwiller) – Bowmore has shown consistency in his past performances, which suggests it could be a contender for minor placings.
3. RILEY J: (3 b f bySoul Warrior – Hail De Cat) – Riley J had a tough run in the Jamaica Oaks, finishing ninth by a significant margin. However, with a return to a more comfortable distance there’s potential for improvement. If Riley J can find his footing at this distance he could challenge for a better finish.
4. MIGHTY GULLY: (3 b f by Buzz Nightmare – Lady Exotic) – Mighty Gully’s recent win was impressive, with the horse prevailing in a driving finish by a half-length over Miss MoneyPenny at 5½ furlongs. Given the extended distance in this race, Mighty Gully might appreciate the extra ground and could potentially repeat her win.
5. STRONG MIND: (3 b c by Casual Trick – Charming Beauty) – Strong Mind won his last outing but repeating that performance might be challenging. Nevertheless, the horse’s past success suggests he could still challenge for minor placings.
6. AMERICAN AVIATOR (USA): (3 dk b/br c by American Freedom – Marks Miss) – American Aviator showed promise in his recent run, despite a four-month break. That performance could be seen as a stepping stone for this talented horse which might now be ready to challenge for top honours.
7. MISS MONEYPENNY: (3 ch f by Bern Identity – Pomeroy’s Secret) – Miss MoneyPenny has been consistent, with two consecutive second-place finishes. Given her recent form, Miss MoneyPenny is likely to put up a strong fight in this race.
8. DUTCHESS: (3 b f by Casual Trick – Curlin’s MacBeth) – Dutchess might struggle to keep up with the pace of the race and is expected to be left behind.
