DERBY DAY DRAMA

Atletico Madrid host Real Madrid; Crystal Palace welcome leaders Liverpool in blockbuster matches

The Spanish capital braces itself for another monumental clash as the first Madrid derby takes place this Saturday when Atletico Madrid host fierce rivals Real Madrid. Then later on Saturday, the remaining unbeaten Premier League sides collide in a blockbuster clash and Crystal Palace host leaders Liverpool at Selhurst Park.

Event # 1 – Spain – ATL Madrid vs Real Madrid – 9:15 am

The biggest game on Saturday in Europe will take place in the Spanish capital where Atletico Madrid will host their fiercest rivals, Real Madrid, in the famous El derby Madrileño. With that said, Atletico enter this crucial match nine points behind their city rivals Real, having made an inconsistent start to the 2025/26 campaign, picking up just nine points from their opening six league matches to sit ninth in the table, some distance behind Real Madrid. In fact, Atletico enter this match off the back of a 2-2 midweek draw against Rayo Vallecano wherein they needed a stoppage-time equaliser to secure a draw at home. The home side have won two, drawn three, and lost one of their opening six matches in the league, and were beaten away by Liverpool in their opening Champions League group match last week.

Real Madrid have been perfect across all competitions so far this season, winning their opening six league matches in addition to the Champions League opener against Marseille. Real Madrid have brushed aside all and sundry so far, including a 4-1 hammering melted out on Levante in midweek, and are looking like the team to beat this season. Indeed, Real lead the table — five points ahead of another rival, Barcelona, who sit second in the table. Last season, Real Madrid finished four points behind champions Barcelona but this year they look determined to reclaim the LaLiga title.

Key Stats

• ATL Madrid – Atletico Madrid have won two of their seven matches played this season and have conceded at least one goal in six of their seven games played.

• Real Madrid – Real Madrid have won all seven matches they have played so far this season and have scored at least two goals in their three away league matches this season.

• Both sides – The last three matches between both teams have ended in 1-1 draws while Real Madrid’s last two wins over Atletico have ended in 2-1 scorelines.

The betting tip: Real Madrid win.

Event # EPL – Crystal Palace vs Liverpool – 9:00 am

The two remaining unbeaten records in the 2025 Premier League season will be on the line on Saturday as this season’s Community Shield winners and defending champions and league leaders Liverpool collide in another monumental showdown at Selhurst Park. With neither side yet to suffer the bitter taste of defeat in the league this season, the Eagles, Crystal Palace, failures to convert draws into wins mean they lie four places and six points behind Liverpool who have a perfect record with five wins from their five matches played so far. Boasting the longest ongoing unbeaten run of any Premier League side, Crystal Palace are looking to make it 12-league matches without defeat. Only once have they managed that feat before, doing so way back in 1990.

The truly convincing wins are yet to arrive for the defending champions but Liverpool have nonetheless put up a five-point lead over their closest rivals in the Premier League table, and they can now open a Premier League campaign with six successive wins for just the fifth time in their history. An impressive record at Selhurst Park offers hope that such a feat can be repeated as Liverpool have won nine and drawn one of their last nine away matches at Crystal Palace. With that said, Liverpool with enter this match without their leading scorer so far this season, Hugo Ekitike, who got a red card in their cup game in midweek, but with the mercurial Alexander Isak available to make his full Premier League debut for Liverpool the task of stopping Liverpool’s impressive start to the season doesn’t get any easier for Crystal Palace.

Key Stats

• Crystal Palace – Crystal Palace fought back from a goal down twice and eventually beat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield back in August.

• Liverpool – Last season Liverpool took four points against Crystal Palace in the league, drawing at home before winning 0-1 at Palace.

• Both sides – Liverpool have won 10 of their last 11 matches at Selhurst Park in all competitions.

The betting tip: Liverpool win.
