Knockout champs McKay Security eye Business House double
UNDEFEATED in 13 games after defending their knockout title, defeating Wisynco 5-3 on penalties last Wednesday, McKay Security Limited aim to maintain their Kingston and St Andrew Business House football streak against National Housing Trust (NHT) on Friday, the second match of a league semi-final double-header set for Constant Spring at 8:30 pm.
Coach Aurane Phoenix said McKay Security are two games away from creating history, the first side to complete the Business House knock-out and league double without losing a match.
“We have not lost a game and are aiming at an undefeated season,” Phoenix said, pointing out that McKay Security are gunning for redemption after losing last season’s league semi-final 0-1 to NHT.
“We have two games left, the semis and, hopefully, the final. I don’t think a team has ever done that,” Phoenix added, citing Wayne Shaw, president of the Jamaica Business House Football Association, as his source.
A division-one side since 2019, McKay Security lost the 2024 knock-out on the field, beaten 2-3 in extra time by Metro Dade Security after a 2-2 draw in regular time. However, Metro Dade were afterwards stripped for using an ineligible player. McKay Security were awarded the title, which they successfully defended against Wisynco.
“We were flawless in the penalty shoot-out,” said Phoenix. “Wisynco missed their first penalty,” he pointed out, naming Tafari Richards, Andrew Peddlar, Howard Morris, Locksley Thompson, and Shemari Dyer as McKay’s respective scorers.
“It was a competitive game, Wisynco went down to 10 men on the stroke of half-time and went on the defensive after that. We enjoyed possession but weren’t able to break them down,” Phoenix reflected.
Ironically, should McKay avenge last season’s semi-final loss to NHT, the league final could be a replay of the knock-out final if Wisynco get past RJRGLEANER in Friday’s opening match, starting at 6:00 pm.
McKay Security’s chief executive officer, Jason McKay, pointed to the team’s run, undefeated in five knock outs and eight league games, notching seven wins and a draw while scoring 24 goals and conceding four.
“I hope four against will remain as is. No more goals against,” McKay said. “I am very pleased with the performance of the team. Congratulations are in order for the team, Coach Phoenix, and management team led by Rodney McPherson. The team has done the company and its brand a great service in both conduct and performance.”
