Manning’s, Cedric Titus book spots in daCosta Round of 32

MANNING’S School and Cedric Titus High are the first qualifiers for the Round of 32 in the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition, scoring big wins over Lewisville High and Muschett High, respectively, on Wednesday.

Both schools were winning their sixth-straight games in the first round, joining Ocho Rios High and Port Antonio High to ensure safe passage to the next round.

Maldon High will, however, have to wait for at least another game to qualify for the second round as they had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against an inspired Irwin High in Zone A.

Today, Knox College and Holmwood Technical can complete the play-off in Zone G with wins over Alphansus Davis High and Alston High, respectively.

They are hoping to join Alphansus Davis High and Christiana High who are tied in the lead with 15 points each.

Manning’s School whipped Lewisville High 9-0 on Thursday, after beating them 12-0 in their first match, and improved to 18 points — nine more than second-placed Petersfield who have played two games less.

Jahrue Campbell, Dainton Williams and Jarvis Meylor all got braces while Leanthony Coley, Dhamar Blair and Aiden Dryden scored a goal each.

In Clark’s Town, Terron Eccleston scored eight goals to lead Cedric Titus to a 10-0 beating of Muschett High in their Zone D game as they also improved to 18 points, well ahead of second-placed William Knibb Memorial.

Junior Thomas and Cloyd Williams scored the other goals for Cedric Titus High.

Maldon High would have been the third team to advance but had to be satisfied with a 1-1 draw with Irwin High who they beat 3-2 in the first round.

Nicholas Fletcher gave Irwin High the lead in the 49th minute before Kevin Hawthorne salvaged a point for Maldon High when he scored in time added on in the second half.

The result left Maldon High second in Zone A to Cornwall College, both on 16 points, but Cornwall College leads on goal difference and has a game in hand.

In Mandeville, Manchester High won their seventh in a row after swamping Cross Keys High 19-0, with Jevohntae Gordon leading the way with seven goals. Orane Wright scored five while Ludwick Collins and Shamone Reynolds each scored two goals.

Rusea’s High have opened up a four-point lead in Zone B by beating Anchovy High 2-0 and Green Island High, upsetting second-placed Frome Technical 2-1 to avenge their previous 5-0 loss.

All three goals came in the final six minutes of the game as Tarik Donaldson gave Green Island the lead in the 84th minute but Javani Plumber equalised in the 90th minute for Frome Technical. Lincoln Kerr scored the winner five minutes into time added.

Belair High moved into second place in Zone F, behind Manchester High, by beating deCarteret College 2-1 while McGrath High were 5-0 winners over Tacius Golding High.
