Cardenas, Lynch hit milestones at Caymanas Park
Jockeys Dick Cardenas and Clive Lynch were the undeniable stars of the day at Caymanas Park on Saturday, etching their names deeper into the annals of racing history, even as Miss MoneyPenny grabbed some of the spotlight with a commanding win in the RonRon Trophy feature.
Dick Cardenas reached a remarkable milestone, notching his 800th career winner aboard Midnight Flight in the eighth race. Trained by Byron Davis, Midnight Flight delivered a convincing 1 ½ length victory in the three-year-old and upward Claiming event ($1.5m-$1.2m) over five furlongs straight (1,000m), clocking 59.3 seconds.
Clive Lynch joined the elite club of jockeys with 500 wins, reaching this prestigious landmark in the Reprieve Trophy, the second race on the 10-race card. Lynch guided Mr Lee, owned and trained by Lee Clarke, to a thrilling neck win over Alchemy of Souls (ridden by Robert Halledeen) over nine furlongs (1,800m).
Miss MoneyPenny, trained by Jason DaCosta and ridden by Dane Dawkins, made one move to win the $1.19-million Restricted Stakes contest for three-year-olds and upward over six furlongs (1,200m). Miss MoneyPenny won the race by ½-length in 1:14.0.
Racing is scheduled to continue on Sunday with a nine-race card. First post is at high noon.
